Key Stone Species - finding the key stone for your team

I liken my job to finding the keystone species in the wild. If you don’t know about keystone species they are the crucial species that enable an ecosystem to flourish. When the American Bison was re-introduced to North and South Dakota the whole ecosystem became healthier. As bison forage, they aerate the soil with their hooves, which aids in plant growth, and distribute seeds, helping to maintain a healthy and balanced ecosystem. Their reintroduction supported so much more. The honey bee is a keystone species that is crucial to the food cycle.

I look for the keystone behaviours in people that create sustainable change, leading happier and healthier lives. In organisations I look for keystone people - people who make their work ecosystem healthier, support others and help to retain organisations do what they can to retain them.

Using the nature theme again, there is a massive change taking place with the pressure people and organisations are having on the world around us. The ecosystem that the world supports is under threat from human disruption and over consumption, with far reaching effects for fauna and flora. Whole tracts of the environment have been devastated by this human activity and if we are not ready to change and adapt our behaviour the world as we know it will not be around for mine and others children to enjoy what we take for granted. I love working with people and businesses that are ethically and purpose led, who are making a difference, or aspiring to make a difference. They are aware of their impact on the world and are always striving to led that supports the good of people and the good of the planet.
